Cheddar Cheese Bread Bowls
  • These are the ultimate soup bowls! They take some time but are well worth the effort. Your friends will be amazed. Use them with any soup or chili though I especially like it with our Roasted Tomato soup.
  • Buy small round loafs of bread especially made for soup. It may be a local bakery or even Panera Bread. Call ahead to order. We like sourdough best.

  • 1 small loaf of bread per person.
  • 1/4 cup shredded sharp white cheddar cheese per bowl.


  • Slice the top third of each loaf off with a serrated knife. Save the tops. Scoop all the bread from the inside of the loaf just leaving the crust. Put the shredded cheese inside the hollowed out loaf and spread it out going up the sides as much as possible.
  • Place bowls under broiler until cheese melts, 3 to 5 minutes. Keep an eye on them, you don't want them to burn. Remove from broiler when cheese is melted. Place each bowl on a plate and fill with your favorite soup.
  • You can toast the tops lightly and use them to cover the bowls when serving. Tops are also good for dipping.  Enjoy!
