Now is the time of year for FRESH King Crab from Dutch Harbor, Alaska.
This crab comes off the boats of "The Deadliest Catch", Time Bandit, Cornelia Marie. etc.
The golden king crab starts the season in September. We usually get these for the weekend, call ahead for price and availability.
The big red king crab, my favorite, starts in mid October going into mid November. The reds are the biggest, tastiest, and most expensive. I call it OMG crab because that's the first words out of your mouth when you taste them for the first time!
Stop by for a taste yourself! Usually available weekends during the season.

We came to the Fest with a Tradition New England Clam Chowder that we though was the best and most authentic clam chowder that we had ever made. The judges and fans both agreed and we won the title of BEST traditional Clam Chowder in Chicago for 2016!

We had a great time with the Friends of the Chicago River grilling and sampling Asian carp at the Bridgehouse Museum River Walk on August 26th. We met many nice people and everyone loved the carp burgers.

We continue to promote the use of Asian carp as a viable food product and the BBC picked up on it. they stopped by the shop for a chat and a taste of a carp burger. I'm waiting for the thaw to start buying more Asian carp which we feature on the weekends. Unfortunately, everything in the area rivers is under ice at present. Spring is coming soon, right?!

If you haven't yet had the opportunity to try some, be sure to stop by the shop on a Saturday. Every Saturday between 12:00 and 3:00 we have our Big Green Egg fired up and are sampling all kinds of great fish and seafoods along with our marinades and assorted sides.
We are working with the Shedd Aquarium to bring awareness to the public about invasive species in the Great Lakes. Asian carp is a particularly big issue of which we can all take a bite of!

Now is the time for Nantucket Bay Scallops. There is no better tasting or sweeter scallop in the world. The best way to sample these "marshmallows of the ses" is to eat one raw! Recently, our friend Steve Dolinsky stopped by the shop to sample a few.
We do have the same product frozen which is the next best thing!

Dirk’s Fish and Gourmet Shop Dirk’s might look like more of a market than a restaurant, but it’s one of the city’s premiere sources for sustainable seafood. Diners can come grab some amazing sushi, take a cooking class, and then pick up fish to make for dinner that night. Plus, Dirk is just so damn nice. On the menu: Laughing Bird Shrimp, a sustainable farm-raised Caribbean white shrimp, simmered in Thai coconut basil sauce, served over jasmine rice with a side of tangy vinegar cucumber salad. Can’t make it to Chicago Gourmet? The shop hosts a weekly free grilling demo from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, and this weekend it will be dishing out exactly what it’s serving at the fest, along with a variety of other goodies, like salmon and tuna burgers. That Thai coconut basil simmering sauce is also always available in the shop, and it works well as a marinade too.
